Earlier this month Victoria University of Wellington announced a new Computer Graphics programme that will be unique in Australasia in the way it blends computer science and design. The goal of the programme is to build in-depth capability at Victoria to support New Zealand’s digital industries. This new initiative has come about as a direct result of collaboration between leading Wellington-based digital content companies including Unlimited Realities, Weta Digital and Sidhe.
Known for movies such as Avatar, King Kong and Lord of the Rings, Weta Digital is the award winning animation and visual effects arm of Peter Jackson’s movie making empire while Sidhe is a global video game developer with leading console, PC and mobile titles to its name including Rugby Challenge and Flick Kicks. Here at Unlimited Realities we are best known as developers of the Fingertapps suite of touch screen applications for Windows devices and our world leading user experience design talent.
All three companies are built on a strong foundation of computer graphics and design in their given fields and at Unlimited Realities our emphasis is on the intersection of user interaction and computer graphics to deliver amazing user experiences.
For us at Unlimited Realities, this is a significant boost to the already burgeoning digital content industry in New Zealand and this investment from the New Zealand government and Victoria University will further strengthen Wellington’s and New Zealand’s role in the global computer graphics industry, whether it be in movies, games or software applications.
